Week of September 12, 2011

9/12 Monday – First we will take a mock multiple choice test on Once More to the Lake (2nd period only). Next we’ll have a quiz on Catcher in the Rye (up to 157). Review quiz. Start reading Stephanie Ericson’s The Ways We Lie (174-183). Finish reading for homework and answer tonight’s blog question.

9/13 Tuesday – Review results from last week’s Thomas Paine essay. Do’s and Don’ts. Review and brainstorm tomorrow’s in class essay topic: Author Stephanie Ericsson observed that “madness is actually a sane reaction to an insane world.” Write an essay analyzing a character from a literary work in terms of this statement. Suggestions: Holden in Catcher in the Rye, Romeo and Juliet, George in Of Mice and Men, or a text of your choice. Homework: Brainstorm for tomorrow’s essay, respond to tonight’s blog questions on The Ways We Lie.

9/14 Wednesday – In class essay. You may use your notes from last night’s brainstorm. Homework: respond to tonight’s blog question on Catcher in the Rye.

9/15 Thursday- Groups of three will score yesterday’s essay. Homework; finish Catcher in the Rye for tomorrow. Final test tomorrow.

9/16 Friday – Final test on Catcher in the Rye.
