East of Eden Presentations and Reading Schedule

On Thursdays and Fridays, pairs will be presenting their fifty or so pages of reading to the class for a forty-five minute period. Your presentation will consist of the following seven components:

  1. A plot summary.
  2. 2.     A discussion that is centered on the following: theme(s), character (s), symbol(s), Steinbeck’s writing style. HAVE PREPARED QUESTIONS FOR THE CLASS.
  3. 3.     A passage from the reading that you find most interesting. Be prepared to discuss this with the class.
  4. 4.     The “good”, the “bad” and the “ugly”. I will leave this up to you.
  5. A full-color representative poster that should be at 14” x 16”. This poster should include any or all of the following: theme(s), character(s), symbol(s), and writing.
  6. 6.     A scenario that is posed around the hypothetical question of “What if…?”
  7. An assessment of the class’s understanding of the reading – this is up to the presenters but can be an objective test, short or longer essay test, etc. The presenters will grade the assessments and give me a list of the scores.

Attached are study questions for all four parts. They are to be typed and turned in on the following dates:

January 31 – Part One

                        February 8 – Part Two

                        February 15 – Part Three

                        February 29 – Part Four
