Once More to the Lake – Details

Quote and page Why I chose this My thoughts about it
“I took along my son, who had never had any fresh water up his nose …” (444) White’s choice of words here caught my interest because this is a stylish and original way of expressing his son’s inexperience around a lake This is kind of curious because no one likes to have water up his/her nose. It is a very unpleasant, irritating sensation. However, there is also something reaffirming about life and nature that White wants his son to experience – swimming in a lake is one of life’s more joyful pastimes, yet there is also a sense of discomfort as well. I find it interesting that White chooses to describe lake swimming with this image.
