Weekly Assignments

*DUE ON THE LAST  DAY OF EACH WEEK (usually on a Friday).

DIRECTIONS: After finishing the weekly reading, you will complete the following homework assignment on a separate sheet of paper.  Please label each section of the homework (Noteworthy Passage, Lingering Question, and Key Vocabulary) and write in complete sentences. THIS SHOULD BE TYPED.  You will turn these in on the last class day of each week.

 

 

CLASSWORK:

Noteworthy Passage: Choose one sentence, paragraph, quote, or phrase that caught your interest or made you question something—this may be something agree with or disagree with. Then write why you chose this passage and your opinion on the topic. (Response should be at least 1 paragraph).

Lingering Question: What five question(s) do these chapters leave you with? These questions can be about education, society, or the character’s lives and decisions.

Key Vocabulary: Choose five words from each week’s list, write the definition, and use each word in a sentence. You can use the same sentences as found in the book or you can come up with your own sentence.

 

CLASSWORK:

S.S.R.: You will be given the second 10 minutes (after journal writing) of class each day to read And Still We Rise.  (You may also need to read some of the book at home in order to keep up with the weekly readings).

In order keep up with the reading, you will need to read ≈8-10 pages per day.

 

SSR Points are given as follows:

  • 5pts= Full S.S.R./ If you start reading when the tardy bell rings
  • 3pts=Partial S.S.R. / If you’re get distracted and don’t read continuously the entire reading period
  • 0pts=No S.S.R. /If you’re absent

 

 

Discussion: Be ready to discuss the weekly reading, your noteworthy passage, lingering question, and key vocabulary on the last day of each week (Fridays). You will get points for actively participating in these discussions.  You will lose points if you choose not to participate.
